October Horror Movie Challenge- Day 3

The first movie of the day, Life After Beth (2014) turned out to be a pretty cool take on the zombie sub-genre. While it obviously plays the scenario for laughs, Life After Beth poses a fairly interesting question; What if the dead came back to life, but were oblivious to the fact that they've died. The movie starts out with Zach (Dane DeHaan) mourning the recent death of his girlfriend Beth (Aubrey Plaza). When Beth's parents strangely cut off all contact with him, Zach discovers that his girlfriend has returned from the dead and that her parents have been covering it up. While her parents see her mysterious return as a blessing, Zach is suspicious of Beth's resurrection. His fears are soon confirmed when other people who are dead start showing up unexpectedly. What makes the zombies in Life After Beth interesting is the fact that although they are dead and crave human flesh, they still act as they did when they were alive. Overall, it's a pretty fun movie and I would highly recommend it. 10 out of 12 beers.

Don't let this beautiful cover painted by a deranged serial killer fool you, Insvisible Strangler (1978) (or as I saw it, The Astral Fiend) is terrible. The movie follows a police detective investigating a series of stranglings executed by an escaped inmate who has mastered the art of "astral projection". And by that, they pretty much just mean that he can turn himself invisible, shoot lasers out of his eyes, and become surrounded by blue static. The plot is just dumb enough and poorly executed to have the potential to be a hilariously fun time, but it's not. Scenes drag on forever with virtually nothing happening in them and characters unexcitedly deliver sleep-inducing dialogue. The movie also serves as proof that Elke Sommer will appear in any movie you ask her to. 2 out of 12 beers.
