October Horror Movies Day 9

Based on a novel by Edward D. Wood, Jr. and starring "Criswell and a bevy of beautiful girls"? How could I resist this one? Orgy Of The Dead (1965) is little more than an excuse to show topless women dancing around for an hour and a half. And I'm okay with that. Throw in The Mummy, The Wolfman, and a Vampira-esque countess and you've pretty much got all you need for Orgy Of The Dead. There is a very loose plot, but I wouldn't waste my time trying to explain it. If you're not in the mood for a dumb burlesque show hosted by Criswell, don't bother with this one. I enjoyed the hell out of it, though. 8 out of 12 beers.

Blood Hook (1986) is a very tongue-in-cheek take on the slasher genre, but it works because it plays it straight and doesn't go for cheap laughs. Almost everything about this movie is like every other slasher flick you've seen before... but with a hook (yeah, I couldn't resist). Instead of a knife, our killer takes out his victims with dead-shot casting from his fishing rod. Interestingly, the director Jim Mallon and the composer and key grip Kevin Murphy would go on to work together on Mystery Science Theater 3000, which this film easily could have been on. 8 out of 12 beers.
